Lorne is a very popular beach tourist resort town, located on one of Victoria's most scenic coastal routes, the Great Ocean Road. Lorne and its surrounds are recognised as one of Australia's most scenic places of natural beauty. There is much to see and do.

Lorne offers walking opportunities for all fitness levels, whether it be a gentle stroll on the beach or rock pool rambling. The mountainous Otway Ranges form an attractive backdrop to the town, with the Great Otway National Park offering many bushwalking tracks. The spectacular Erskine Falls are located within the park, just 8 kilometres west of town. Enjoy hiking opportunities on well-marked trails through the temperate rainforest and visits to the picturesque waterfalls. On the way, be on the lookout for native animals such as koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas and abundant birdlife including king parrots, rosellas, cockatoos and kookabarras. If you prefer to relax, Lorne has beautiful beaches and a well-established cafe culture with a few shops to browse. Check the Qdos Arts gallery, studio and sculpture park.

We are planning to have Deakin University student volunteers guiding small groups to the most notable sites in and around Lorne. If you are or your partner is an accompanying person and this is of interest please contact the conference organisers at geohab2014@deakin.edu.au.
